Newcastle are creating an airport which is best equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Newcastle International's position as one of the major growth airports in the UK takes a significant step forward this week with the publication of a new Masterplan outlining development requirements up to 2016.

Newcastle International published its first Masterplan in 1995, with an indication of how the Airport would expand until 2006. The publication of a revised Masterplan will update this vision and extend its timescale to 2016 and beyond.

This revised Masterplan sets out the development that may be required to accommodate growth over the period, and to maintain the competitive position of the Airport. The Airport will continue to remain a vital key to regional economic growth, inward investment and direct employment.

It is a key objective of this Masterplan is to accommodate future growth in passenger numbers, freight and airport services effectively over the next 12 years, while taking living standards of local residents into account, as well as the local environment and road networks.
